One thing that some Hudson owners fail to do is follow the maintenance schedule for their car. Talking to owners lately and asking them their schedules reveals some interesting statistics. Some owners seem to think because its an old car and they do not drive them regularly that they do not need to follow the proper maintenance procedures. Not one owner that I talked to had adjusted the bands on their hydramatics since getting their cars. Hudson manual says its a good idea to check every 2 thousand miles and adjust every 10,000.
Todays topic is greasing your suspension components. Here's a good tip when greasing, the grease that fills the inside of the cup on the control arms and suspension links is what keeps them moving freely having globs of grease everywhere does not help anything. I had to pressure wash the underside of my Hornet clean off all the old grease and regrease everything to spec. Previous owner kept greasing without removing the residue that pumps out, sum total is I had a underside that was completey covered in grease and oil from the leaks I just fixed. So grease, clean off residue and you should be good to go. And remember to keep things greased.

This is also on my to do list. I bet my car hasn't been greased in at least 10 years. I plan to pick up a pneumatic grease gun first...
Also, I bought some of the plastic caps with retaining rings for the zerk fittings from Mcmaster Carr. I bought bright red ones so that as I clean and grease each fitting I can install a cap. The caps will help me keep track of what has been greased as well as help me identify them in the future.
Plus, they keep the dirt out
I'll let you know how they work out.

Sometimes amazes me how many people think this is unnecessary. We are all used to the new vehicles that don't need this. Hudsons need it. I grease mine at the beginning of spring and as part of my procedure for storing my Hornet for winter. Keeps all of the suspension components lubed and running quite. Doesn't matter how many miles you put on her its time as well. Lets face it most of our Hudsons are low yearly mileage now but that does not mean you have to wait 10,000 miles to lube. Twice a season I say. Good to squeeze out the old stuff and get new stuff in the joints to protect them.
I like the idea of the caps. Remember also to keep a maintenance diary for you Hud. Its nice to have, put in all the dates and what you did. Shows people you care about your car and helps you remember what you did.
