Now, now, don't give yourself a thrombo...So lets say this, whether or not the cars came from the factory like this, I think it looks good. Thanks for the pics.

Looking into this some more since its certainly a nice slot to put reflective tape I found two factory photos of the cars and the slots are empty and it is not smooth chrome in the slot its a brushed effect like on the dash ( I will scan). Certainly it would indicate the Hudson engineers thought it was a good place for reflective tape, MAYBE. if it was a good place why didn't they put reflectors on the factory cars. I suppose I could ask why they put washer holes in the windshield and not offer a factory installed windshield washer but only a dealer installed.
I will certainly concede this looks like the spot for reflective tape but it was dealer installed as per usual with Hudson they considered most accessories dealer installed items.
And after taking a look on the Internet I see cars with yellow tape cars with red tape. Nobody is saying there aren't cars with tape we are asking where did the tape come from. Its like showing pictures of 5 cars with wind deflectors on and saying see as we all know wind deflectors were a dealer option not factory. I am still digging through my stuff to find a factory listing for this tape. I have got to find one as I do not believe Hudson missed an opportunity to sell an accessory and now that I think of it in my stuff somewhere is a campaign Hudson joined called Driving safety in America and they sold windshield washers, larger rear view mirrors, backup lights so I will dig that out and see if reflective bumper tape was also part of that.

Ok more to report and its getting weirder all the time. I dug out my brochures for 52 and 53. They show painted pictures of the cars and they show the rear chrome with the slot and the brushed effect I said before no tape.
Now I found a 54 parts circular that shows the back of a 54 and it has the slots and tape in them and we know the 54 did not roll that way as I cannot find any other 54 with slots and tape. I am thinking the trim is off a 53 for the photo. And I found a Jet with tape on the back. Found the safety ad did not sell tape so I am still digging.
What fun they is one constant here and that is nothing is consistent in Hudson. Good fun to dig through the stuff and by George I have a lot of Hudson stuff.....

I think I'll put wood grain on mine and tell everyone that it was part of the optional Hudson woodie package.
Sean, please let us know what other info you gather from your Hudson oracle.

Sure I am not seeing anything consistent yet. Pics with pics without no mention in the merchandisers.

I think if there are enough 52+ Hudsons running around with the reflective tape on them, it may have been some sort of promotional think done through dealers. Keep seeking ye shall find...something.

I agree. HD should start handing out the legacy so he can see the happiness it will bring. Just don't tell him I'm the one who said that.

Might as well drive them now. I never want to have a collection so big that I cannot drive them all regularly....

We'll see about that busy, busy Sean. With the shopping list of cars you have, you'll be driving non-stop.
