Does anyone know what the hole in the trunk of my 47 comodore was used for when I got the car there was some sort of a canvas bucket about 10 inches across that was wire reinforced fitted into it and going down about 10 inches. It was rotted away and I have no idea what it was used for, maybe for the air circulation?
Thanks

Hey Roger,
welcome to our neck of the Hudson woods. Don't know the answer to your Commodore question so I have asked some of my other Hudson buddies to see if we can get you an answer. I have seen Hudsons with a metal depression in the truck for holding tools but have never seen a canvas one.
I have a friend with a 47 so I will call him as well. Are you coming out to the meet on the 10th of September?

The hole in your trunk is a vent that was used to equalize pressure in the car when driven on the road with the windows vents open or the windows rolled down a bit. The theory was that when the vents are open a slight vacuum is caused which would suck in dust. Especially since the roads were not paved in a lot of locations back then. The vent filtered through canvas would pull in air from the ground and equalize the pressure in the car when on the road.
Don't know if it really works.

Thanks for the answer and welcome. If you get a chance you will have to tell us more about your 41.
