| I have a set of lights that have the Hudson logo on the top but the mounting studs are on the back of each. Would these be for early step downs or?

I have seen them on Stepdowns. Though you usually see the guide or unity lights without the logo.

These are fog lights (yellow glass lenses) made by Unity for hudson. The ones I usually see (and have a few sets of) have the mounting stud on the bottom. Hence the question.

The ones with the stud on the bottom go on a bracket that bolts to the bumper irons, that's the pre-war style. (Unity supplied the same ones to most manufacturers with the only difference being the name tab on the top)
The stud on the center back may be for a "through" bracket to somehow mount them above the bumper but low, so as to not extend up higher than bumper guards. Will one of the old style brackets fit between the bumper and grille of a stepdown? I wouldn't think so, and I don't think the bottom stud should be mounted to the bumper by drilling. The post war Lincoln unity lights were a smaller lamp, and mounted on a swivel bracket that sat on the top edge of the bumper. They sound like an interesting find Dave.

The ones with the studs on the back appear to be for mounting to the body, below the headlights. Personally, I wouldn't put holes in my car to mount them like that, but have seen it done on Stepdowns. My fogs (actually driving lights with clear lenses) are mounted near bumper level. You know how it is Moe, this stuff just seems to follow me home.

What kind of fog light switch do you guys have on your car. I have a switch that looks factory original it looks like the heater and head light switch and it has fog light stamped in the end. The lights themselves are guide where most of the ones I see for sale are Unity.

My switches and lights are all Unity brand. Each of the lights have the Hudson logo on the top. The Guide brand was a division of GM. If I remember correctly, there was a mod that was made to the flat part of the chrome gauge cluster on our cars to accept your style of switch. I know there is an opening behind the chrome bezel of the gauge cluster which can accept a switch for fog, driving lor back-up lights. Most of the switches I've seen are fused with a bakelite knob that mount below the dash. Some say Unity and some say either Fog or Lites.

Yeah mine is a chrome switch that is identical to the other switches in the car so was obviously a Hudson accessory. The guide lamps have me puzzled though. May have been changed out from Unity for some reason I will never know. Cars sometimes guard their secrets well.

Where is your switch mounted? I wouldn't be too puzzled about a Guide brand product being on your car. After all, Hudson did buy from Guide. One example is the traffic viewer.

Is it in the dash or attached to the bottom of it?

Me too. Wouldn't work on our cars though.
