Looks to be a complete car with all the pieces but with a lot of work to get it done. If you could get for less than 8k would be a good deal as it has about 30k minimum of work needed to bring it back. But these are rare and you take what you can get.

The number of old cars that keep popping up never ceases to amaze me. Great project for someone who has deep pockets and loads of time.

You can certainly get back the money you spent on this project. But like I read in a recent article about auctions if you want big dollars for your car you have to spend big dollars when restoring it. When you consider this will go for maybe 10K and you have to kick in another 40K to restore it you might as well look for a restored car.
The only way I see this working is if someone buys it and does all the work themselves. That way it can be a labor of love and someone can save another Hudson.

I agree. It's a simple matter of what goes in come out. However, based on the fact that it's a convertible, someone (in the business or with a fantastic home shop) can restore this and do OK. But, considering the hourly rate shop charge and the volume of restoration needed, hiring a shop do the restore would probably range between $50-100k.

Correct the deciding factor here is who is doing the work. The other caveat is that sometime the seller thinks he is selling a restored car not a restorable car. So they want big bucks. I would not spend a dollar over 10K for this car. I know how much work it would take to put right. Rebuilding the top and chrome will cost 15K alone. Sellers think they have hit on a gold mine, this is where the buyer gets screwed. I think Nick Sollons convertible was bought for around $8500 which is the right price for a car needing total resto.

No matter how you look at it, this car is going to take lots of time and money to restore. As they say, it's always cheaper to buy one restored.

This car had a $5,000 reserve on it I am impressed by this buyer he did not try and gouge anyone. If it sells for a good price I think thats good. I hate when seller has $20K reserve on car that needs total resto.

If whoever buys this has the vehicle restored, maybe we'll see it in a few years. Otherwise. it may just sit in another carport (or large home shop) until it turns to dust.

Went for $6,627 so someone got a really good deal. The reality is this is just about what its worth and it was sold fairly as such so good deal all around and its nice to know deals like this are still coming up. Now the new owner just needs to part with 45K and lots of labor and we have a new Hudson convertible to drool over.....

In order to save time and money, that's why it's usually better to buy a car that's already well restored. Anyone with the time, wads of cash, and a magic wand, can transform a turd into a swan. Sometimes a car like this, one that's original but needs total restoration, may be the way to go. A car that's had amatuerish or older resto started sometimes takes more money and effort to undue before you can start to restore.

| I would also ofer up the notion that it is better to buy one that needs "less" but it seems your options nowadays, are either extreme, either restorable project, or done.... wierd... convertibles are the only ones where there is no in between....

I myself prefer a car like this to restore. I would strip it media blast everything tank dip it for rust then epoxy primer it and start from scratch. Know exactly what I would have.

I know what you mean, but it doesn't take rocket science to buy a good car that someone has spent too much time and money on. The wife and I work hard enough as it is. So, we prefer to have a life, one where we can go out and enjoy ourselves. I like cars that need finishing touches. That fits better with our lifestyle.
