I would also ofer up the notion that it is better to buy one that needs "less" but it seems your options nowadays, are either extreme, either restorable project, or done.... wierd... convertibles are the only ones where there is no in between....
put it in perspective
it depends on the intended goal. take the 48 that sold recently for around 25k that car needed as much work as this one to be #1. If you were to do nothing more than necessary to that car, you would be ok, but are you happy with that old paint, bad interior and pitted chrome for long? Two things to consider, this car is missing parts but what is underneath the other? Ask Dennis C in New York which is a better value. what could 10-20k do for this car as opposed to a 25k near driver? I would argue that you want to buy either all or nothing and avoid the one in between.

nah..

buy what the budget and availability can handle.

let's just say that 6-8K is a more affordable buy in, versus 25K...

easier to put 5K at a time in something, and build it up to the value you want.

However, what if you find one for 15K, that needs some work to be a decent 3, now that's worth it in my mind...

I wish financially, it would be an option to buy cars done and ewnjoy them, but I have not reached that station in life, as of yet.

As far as running around with old paint, bad interior, and pitted chrome, hey, you must have seen my hudson before. I got thousands od dollars of NOS chrome for it, paint is only a couple of weeks of work, but it drives nice, and who really cares?

It will get done sooner or later.

I say, enjoy and drive it.

What you say is true as long as a person buys what they're capable of dealing with. We've all seen people get overwhelmed after buying basket case cars. They often underestimate the time and money involved, get bummed, and let the car sit. At least buy a car that drives and do a rolling restoration. With that being said HK, when are you going to get that car of yours spruced up?

the car i used as an example is/was a great 10-15k car - a grand or two and you could enjoy the hell out of it while accumalating parts/cash/plan. the point being, outside of some crutial missing parts (may or may not be a huge issue depending on the buyer) it wasn't alot better than 6600 car. so yes some extra cash is warrented for the shinier wrapper just not 15-20k more.
