Will a starter for a 53 308 fit a 52 ? or was there a model change
I have a model MCH6109 on my 52, attempting to track down parts.

Yes 53 will fit 52 as long as you are trading the same type of starter the standard and the auto had different snouts so you would have to change them over if you are using a hydramatic starter on a standard tranny car.
The windings are different in the starter but that does not affect installation.

Is there a good - better & best model of starter to source out, if I am replacing mine?
If the 53 windings are different,....I'm guessing they were improved?
The local guy at the rebuild shop says these particular starters, (MCH series), were always a problem?....not the kinda remark ya want to hear from the rebuilder.

The windings are different between standard tranny and auto tranny starter. The Auto tranny starter needs more torque to rotate the heavier transmission. So has different windings.
They were a good starter so don't know what he is talking about.

Im my experience when a rebuilder makes a comment positive or negative it quite often is an indicator of his attitude towards the finished product,......time will tell.
Good to know about the different windings.
