Can anyone give me some help fixing a temp gauge issue?
On a 53 Hud wasp

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
trouble:
the temp gauge doesn't move off cold.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
tests:
I unhooked the wire from the sending unit and shorted the wire to the head.
the gauge slowly went up to HOT.......so im guessing the gauge works.

I unbolted the sending unit and took a ohm meter and it measured 500ohms
then i boiled some water and placed it in and measured the resistance and it went all the way up to 900ohms.......so it appears to be working.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
theory:
Every thing i read on this sending unit is that it should be at 0ohms then go to 50ohms? do you think someone before me put the wrong sensor in? but if thats the case wouldn't the gauge show hot all the time?

is it possible my engine hasn't gotten hot enough to move the gauge?
from what i hear this huds have cooling problems to begin with. Ive drove this car prob 5miles at a time, not at 100deg or anything but.

One thing i haven't tested is the thermostat. Next i was going to pull that and boil it in water to see if she opens up. But if thats was or wasnt working would that cause any of the issues im having?

thanks for any info you may have.
