Have to say this is one of my other ebay peeves is people selling oil filter cartridges on ebay and have the starting bid for what you can walk into Napa and buy them for. This one takes the cake it starts at $24.95 I can see wanting it to display on shelf but who cares about that.
Listing states when was the last time you saw one of these. Well it may have been when I picked up 5 of them at Napa last month.

I see you're point, new filters are a few bucks at the parts stores. In the seller's defense, this is an NOS item in the original box. May be of value (but not @$24.95) to someone who collects such stuff. High starting bids usually turn buyers off, unless the item is truely rar, one of a kind, etc.

You will see people all over ebay selling these cartridges, tractor versions, AC versions and the like usually starting at $9.99 do they expect a bidding war. Yes I will trust my engine to a old NOS filter that the paper had broken down 20 years ago.
I see that this is a NOS original just gets my goat.....I don't know why but it does....

I would think that anyone who would buy this would put it on display. I'm sure nobody here would be so stupid as to use such an old filter. But what kills me are the goofs on eBay who try and:
1. Sell broken, corroded and filthy, parts that should have been thrown away.
2. Sell things like 50 year old NOS fuel pumps and carbs that will need to be rebuilt anyway. They're good for cores, but not at astronomical prices.
3. Sell rubber parts and gaskets that are as dried up as their brains.
Some of these sellers must be related to swap meet dregs who expect you to riffle through boxes of crap because they are too lazy.
Now, my advice to you is this: Take your goat, chill and feel the love...

i gave up on fuel pumps, carbs, and brake parts. There are no good mechanical parts that have any internal rubber parts that are worth buying at a swap meet. The only thing a NOS carb or fuel pump is good for, is a real clean core.
Buy your oil filter at the local autoparts store, buy a new one, don't go to flea markets, and buy em for a buck each. I know someone that has a lifetime supply of them, and thinking now, perhaps those filters are not worth the risk. When I put the oil filter on my hudson, it was not the standard filter, but the earlier larger style, so I had to hunt one down.
Seriously, they are not that hard to find.
I think the only hard to find parts now, mechanical, seem to be front end stuff.. Kingpins, tie rods, etc...

Speaking of front end parts, what have you heard about the stuff from Kanter? Some people say the stuff is fine and others say it's foreign made junk. Although said parts can be had on ebay, who knows how well the stuff was stored. And if you have a problem using a part your bought on ebay, there's no warranty and you can't exactly exchange it.

One thing about Kanter is they ain't cheap. I bought all the suspension parts for a Hornet off a guy they were all Moog and premo parts still packed in grease. So you can find them but you need to see them, smell them, feel them and shake them by your ear so you know what you are getting.

From years of training I can tell how old the grease is give or take 3 days. This way I can accurately date the item.

Does that apply to car parts or can you tell how long its been since someone washed their greasy hair?

for front end stuff, try Dale Cooper.

Don't need anything now, but it's good to know for future reference. I'd rather keep the biz within the Happy Hudson family. Besides, I've heard horror stories about Kanter service...or lack thereof.

| If you're looking for a part for a stepdown, usually it can be found with relatively little hunt. With the exception of the tapered bearings, and the side trim for Hornet 2 doors, it seems everything is fairly available.

You're right, most step down parts are out there. I bet if someone took the time to do the research, even the bearings (you're talking about rear axle?) could be sourced.
