Hi. I'm new here. Quick question... I found this radio in my grandpa's garage. He can't remember what year or model it came out of. All I get from looking at it is that its from a Hudson (duh) and its 6 volt. It looks to be complete, minus the missing knob for the volume control.

Can anyone give me an idea of what year and model and it from?
Any idea what something like this is worth?
Thanks guys.

Welcome Kyle. Have you checked out eBay to get an idea on price? There are usually several Hudson radios for sale there at any given time. I'd say it's probably not worth all that much, even if works. As far as the exact years it was used, I can't say but I'm sure someone will know.
Keep looking around in Grandpa's garage, maybe the rest of the Hudson will turn up.

I checked eBay a couple months ago and didn't find anything, so I figured I'd jump straight to a Hudson forum.
Man, 10 bucks on eBay and zero bids... Bummer. I was hoping it'd have some sort of value. lol
Found another one on eBay. 150 bucks right now.
48 Hudson 6v radio
Of course, that one is restored and works.
This was the only Hudson part I found. I went through the entire house, garage, and shed when I helped him move a few months ago. I guess he got it from a guy he worked with in the 70's who had a ton of Hudson and Essex parts laying around. He'd planned on wiring it up to have music in the garage, but never got around to it.

It doesn't hurt to check the forums to get info on things you may not be familiar with.
Yeah, $10.00 is a bummer, but most non-working radios really don't fetch much unless they're really rare.
The one you found on ePay is probably at a good price for a working radio that has good cosmetics. Still, there are lots of guys who don't care if the radio works, they just want something to fill the hole in the dash while they listen to tunes from the modern unit they have hidden in the glove box or trunk.
It would be sweet if you could find the guy with the Hudson and Essex parts.

This radio for a 48-50 Hudson and there are a lot of these radios about. It seems more radios than there were cars. I bought a box of radios for my 54 I got 3 radios and a box full of parts for them for $100 that included all the knobs and even the dash trim pieces.
I have seen many, many Hudson radio's on sale on ebay and if it is not working or rebuilt it will not sell unless its under $40 and for that it needs to have decent to excellent chrome.
A friend of mine has about 25 of these radios. The guy I bought my radios for my 54 off has 350 radios so its pretty hard to sell them for a good price as its going to cost more than $50 to replace the tubes and vibrator and if it needs to be recapped even more. Most shops charge over $100 to rebuild these so when you see a radio that is refurbished for $150 that is a good price.
