I'm getting ready to tear down the 308 out of my 53 CC. Unfortunately it has two cracks from valve seat to bore and I suspect enough rust (long story ) to require another overbore above the current 0.060, which may not be practical.
If you have a decent 308 block (0.060 or less overbore) with NO cracks, I may be interested.
I also need a decent 262 wide block or 308 head. I'd be interested in cast iron, aluminum, or Clifford unit.
Thanks in advance,
Hugh Odom

Hey Hugh how much you planning on spending and I can see if I can match you up. I have a buddy who has 308 he may sell.

That's kind of a wide-open question. I guess I'm willing to spend a good bit. I put a lot of $$ into this engine but then let it sit up a long time which lead to problems.
I want to build a good, reliable, high performance 308. I may be interested in your buddy's engine.
Hugh

Ok I will contact him and tell him you are looking. He has a complete 308 including the head. And may be able to deliver to you.

Think he told me it was complete and running when removed from car. Will ask for details.

| Jim- Thanks for the offer, but that's kind of far for me. I'm in Summerville, SC (near Charleston). Too far to drive and I imagine shipping cost would be prohibitive.

Ok Hugh,
I talked to my buddy it is a running 308 out of a 1954 Hornet. Its sitting on his garage floor with the intake and carbs off.
Do you need the intake and carbs or can you use the stuff off your own engine. He is on the road right now so if you are interested I will hook you up I asked him for price and will relay that to you when I get it.
And Jimalberta your 308 is a 55 block.

I have intake, exhaust and all accessories.
This isn't the same engine just advertised at the Classic Cars Hudson forum, is it?

I can second that. The guy Sean is talking about is as good as they come.

That's one I remember- 1/2" head bolts, serial number on the driver's side of the block, and semi-7X block reliefs from the factory. IIRC they also have factory installed hardened valve seats as AMC switched to conventional cast iron for the blocks vice the high-chrome alloy previously used by Hudson.

Yup serial number is on the drivers side.
54 block also had relief for "Super Induction" as advertised.
Yes 55 and up block is softer.
