OK car junkies, what's the conclusion regarding battery cables? Specifically, copper vs aluminum and welding cable vs standard, large gauge cable.

Any good ideas for crimping lead terminals...other than spending big bucks for a compound crimper.

I bought my cables on the net and then found out my local cable company can do the same or better quality for less. I just take the old cable in they match it. They make them new to my spec. Can't go wrong. They matched the original heavy gauge 6 V stuff from Hudson.

Well, I'll just have to jump on the next plane to Edmonton. LOL My old Cadillacs still wear their huge gauge aluminum cables that work just fine. However, I'm toying around with making up some new cables for a Lincoln with a 460. I really don't need the flexibility that welding cable provides, but I was thinking that the fine copper strands have more surface area and should be a better conductor, as opposed to the same gauge of standard copper cable wire. Rather than investing in a pricey crimper, maybe I need to create my own tool.
