I have a Pridemore Disc Brake kit coming. I really want the hubs but it looks like I will have to fab my own caliper brackets as I want to use a Wilwood drilled rotor setup. I am going to use an aftermarket master cylinder as well a two stage with remote filler. I am still playing with the idea of going to firewall mount and pedal setup similar to the 54.
I really want the hubs which are high quality the rest I will fab if necessary to get what I want.

I thought all he did was machine the hubs/rotors with existing hudson and late model components? If you were going to use different calipers, anyway, why wouldn't you just make your own hub and rotors?
Anyway, let us know what happens to the rest of the kit, some of us might be interested...

Rick, machines brand new hubs which are really nice that is 95% of the battle. Since he had a nice product no need for me to make those. Only thing I need to remake in the caliper bracket.

Are you sure about those hubs?
If memory serves correct, when I spoke with him at the 04 nationals, he told me that he uses the stock hudson wheel bearing/hub assembly from the drum, just machined to work. Then uses late model slip on rotors. And showed me a set-up in real world time. What you ought to do is find out what calipers he uses and see if there is a wilwood cross.

HK,
you are thinking of his version 1 kit. In the new kit he had the hubs machined. Take a gander at the attached pic.

WOW! Is that a dual master cylinder I see? You are aware that it takes more force to stop a car with disc brakes, aren't you? Maybe a brake booster looms in your future.

The verdict is out on having a booster for an older car with a disc/drum combo. With the proper residual and proporting valves things should be ok. I am still mulling having a booster I know of a couple of aftermarket dual MC's that have a booster that fit under the floor. May look at that or may go with firewall mounted setup.
When I drove across Canada I noticed that when we were in the city doing a lot of stop and go driving you get fade. I like to drive my car and once or twice a*holes cut me off and the original brakes are not up to that. The disc's should help. I want to go with Wilwood drilled rotors and either 4 or 6 piston calipers. This is a long term project want to do it right and not be under the car grinding things and making unsafe. A lot to consider as you have take in to account the braking forces and are the components you're installing strong enough to do the job and installed correctly.

Just wondering how insurance companies view such mods. I also wonder if parts have to be certified or somehow approved for use on cars that are driven on open roads. The thing that comes to mind is this; will an insurance provider deny an accident claim if mods are performed, or parts used, that are not approved. We've all heard the stories about how insurance companies worm out of paying claims.

I have to get my car checked after I do this. Have a really good guy up here who checks vintage cars for insurance. You cannot register the car without the inspection.

I think that's a grat idea. How about you? At least we know the Canadians won't be the ones with the out-of-control cars at the next national meet.

I don't mind it the guy knows old cars. He lets me bring my tools like hub puller and be there so no complaints from me. Always good to have a second set of eyes on the work.

Hey, any guy who will let you bring your own tools...well, what can I say! Are car inspections a governmental requirement in the land of ice and snow?

They are when they are a vintage car that you have worked on or bought from another part of Canada.

I think that's a good thing. But down yonder, we feel that we know better and don't want big brother butting into our lives anymore than absolutely necessary. So, shall we say, that some of our older cars may not be in the best of repair. I've heard of problems with dubious power steering and disc brake installations. Therefore, when you see an old vehicle with US plates on it, mash that pedal to the floor and run like hell.
