| I remember seeing a custom bodied pre-war Hudson listed in the UK for stupid money a couple of months ago, I wonder if this is the same one or the same purveyor of fine motorcars? I've got an excellent example of yank pre-war V12 technology I'd be happy to sell them for half that price, and since I'm a nice guy, I'd pay the shipping to get it across the pond. Do those Brits spend that kind of money on pre-war cars that are not "full-classics"?

| The "Flying Turd" is intact, that's gotta be worth something. My Zephyr has a jet plane, 5 years before the first one flew!

First, let's make something clear as not to offend Terraplane owners. I think the turd is one of the best hood ornamnent designs ever.
I think the "Flying Turd" was an insider joke at Hudson. It's gotta be modeled after a turd. After all, it's fat at the start and pointed on the end so the O ring doesn't slam shut. People who call it a cigar are off base, espcially considering cigars come in many shapes but turds...well, you know the rest.
Moe, How do you know the Zephyr ornament is a Jet plane?

| It is the perfect image of a 50s vintage F86 Saber. I'll see if I have a clear shot of one.

I like that mascot, I'll have to get one for the T speedster that is coming together (at least mentally) for the Moe Fleet.
I posted a picture of mine under Jets in the gallery. Swept wings, tapered body, it's a jet. Maybe not exactly a F86, but that's what it makes me think of when I look at it, 50s vintage early swept wing jet. Some laugh about it, but I actually like the Terraplane "cigar" too. Cars really need a quality mascot, the Lincoln Greyhound is cool, as is Chief Pontiac (the art deco version) the Franklin Lion isn't bad either. You're close to JC Whitney in Chicago Dave, do they still have the "Kiss My Arse" clown thumbing his nose, with lighted eyes? I remember years ago JCW had two pages of goofy mascots.

I thought you'd appreciate that. It's funny what "pops-up" when looking for hood ornaments.
I'll have to check out the pic you posted. The hood ornament on your car was years ahead of its time, especially since most manufacturers of that era were still using animals and humans as their mascots. I really do like the TerraTurd. Refering to it as a turd is just my way since 'cigar' is too boring and safe of a description for me. I can see whay people collect ornaments/mascots and write books about them. They are fascinating. JC Whitney is way south of me, in LaSalle, Illinois. They and Warshsawsky used to have stores in the city, but that was many years ago. Believe it or not, they still have some of those goofy GEM brand hood ornaments in their catalog. Sadly, the clown is gone, replaced by a safe and boring ram's head. At least it has illuminated eyes.

| Aren't Warshawsky and JCW one and the same? I never got a chance to visit the downtown location when I lived in the Kenosha area in the 70s. I remember a lot of guys saying it was like disneyland for low buck car guys back then. Back then, if I had any free time, I would have gone to Milwaukee or driven all the way to a friend's house in Detroit rather than going to Chicago. In the 2+ years I lived in Kenosha and Waukegan, I went to Chicago twice, both times in quite a haze to attend a concert at Soldier Field.

Your're right, Warshawsky was bought out by JCW years ago. I never went to the location in Chicago. In its hayday, it was car guy heaven. Everything in their catalog was in the store. While it was still there, a person such as you or I would need to travel there during daylight hours, in a Sherman tank...if you get my drift. Going to Chicago in a purple haze is still the best way to visit there. Some of my favorite concert venues were The Amphitheater, The Chicago Stadium and the Civic Opera House. When I went to see Hawkwind at the Civic Opera House, I wore a top hat to make sure I fit in. BTW, Kenosha has been on the upswing, but Waukegan still has a long way to go. However, the big old houses on Sheridan Road are commanding upwards of $500k these days.

| I can't remember what year it was, 76 I think, Pink Floyd at Soldier Field (I think it was Soldier Field.... It was a sports stadium.... in those days it was nothing to lose a few days here and there) I saw Edgar Winter's White Trash at the Opera House, that was before they changed the name of the band to "the edgar winter group". Before Rick Derringer joined. It may have been 75.

If it was an outdoor venue, it was Soldier's Field. I saw Edgar Winters at the Amphitheater, next to the old stock yards. I think that was in 1973 when he released the single Frankenstein. If I remember correctly, Edgard Winters Group was formed in 1972. Wow, are we old...
