| Anybody have a small hit or miss engine kicking around that they may want to part with? A Sattler, Maytag, JD, early B&S or whatever? I want to build a bull-shaft in my shop and run some fans and a secondary compressor, and maybe a battery charger with it. Just hearing one run is kind of soothing, a couple of bucks in gas and a little oil is worth it to have something different.

If you want, I'll keep an eye out. The car show/swap meets at local county fair grounds usually have several running models on display. Being in farmland, these things are all over the place.

| They were all over when I lived in Upstate NY, every farm had at least one, and some had several. Down here the pickins are slim. Big huge ones or overpriced junk. I'm going to the florida flywheelers meet in a couple of weeks, there should be something there, but keep your eyes open, just in case.

This link might be a place to start your shopping.

I'll keep my eye open. Who knows, maybe someone at a show or swap here may have a lead down in your area.

During our summer national you see tons of those engines. Since we have it at an antique park in the heart of farm land they have an exhibit every year and lots of times guys have them for sale or rigged up to all manner of things. Pretty interesting. I of course use 4 solar panels and a wind charger for my odds and ends.
In the plan for my new garage and shop I am just about sure I can go off grid and still cover all my needs for power and heat. I take it as a fun challenge.

| I snagged two three foot ducted fans (they were from the vent exhaust system at a local school's gymnasium) I'm going to put one through the wall of my shop, and set the other in a moveable frame. The through the wall unit will definitely be run from the bull shaft. Those fans really move a lot of air. Down here you really need lots of airflow, especially in the summer. It doesn't get really hot, but you need airflow when it's 90 + for nine months of the year.

Good thing you didn't get caught "snagging" those exhausts. What's next, knocking off a local convenient store? For me, I wouldn't care how big the shop was, it would be air conditioned. To me, 70 degrees is too hot. Nothing against fans, but AC is...COOL.

| I'm currently only renting space in a metal building that a friend uses as a warehouse for used bike parts and salvage. I can't afford to AC his crap too. Shade and moving air is fine for now. I plan to build a 2400 sq. ft. shop next to my house and when I do, you can bet that the office, and the main workshop will be air conditioned. I'll still pass on air conditioning the storage and secure parking areas. As long as it is shady, and the air is moving the temperature here is great, remember, I live in paradise on earth. I was riding yesterday and will be again today in jeans and a T-shirt. Where else in the US can you ride a motorcycle year round without leathers, except on rare occasions? My sister who still lives in Central NY, near Lake Ontario says it's colder than a welldiggers arse, and snowing. I don't miss it. I was up there on vacation a couple of years ago and had to wear leathers on the bike over the 4th of July weekend.... screw that!

OK, now I see why you're using the fans. The building you're going to build sounds perfect. Sean's going to need one of those real soon. Although there's lots to be said for a temperate climate, FL is too humid for me. And the bugs, they're as big as soft balls. On the other hand, the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf on the other are pluses. Personally, I like the change of seasons and lack of hurricanes.
