I think 102 mph on wood spoke wheels would scare me....

and probably mechanical brakes...

They may have calculated a theoretical top speed of 102 MPH, no way would that beautiful sled actually do it. I frequently drive cars of that era, (although never the Big 6 Hudson) They are really a handful at even conservative speeds. (why do you think that the people who owned the big huge powerful classics had drivers on staff?) I wouldn't want to try, but I'd guess that on a good day, conditions perfect, 80-85 for a flyin mile would be about the best you could hope for. I'd guess that a normal cruising speed would be up to about 50 mph. For the reasons mentioned above, I sure wouldn't do it! My Lincoln is far more modern and will do very close to 100, but 60 is more like the "sweet spot". How hard do you think that big flat (likely plate-glass) windshield pushes as you approach 50, 60, 70....

It's a beautiful car, he is being a little hopeful with the BIN, I'd bet that $15K would own it. Dave, that would look good rolling through Cicero!

I know for sure the gearing on that car wouldn't do over 75....

The last time a car like that made it (safely) down the streets of Cicero, Al Capone was still in charge. Cicero...what a god forsaken town. Good point about the big luxo boats of old. Those cars really must have required some great upper body strength to steer at low speeds.

I'm sure this car would do 75 mph, right before it exploded. Face it, the roads were crap when this car was new and lengths where one could get them up to speed were few and far between.

Can you imagine 75 mph on a dirt road man you would get out with your tongue bitten off. That would be fun.

It would be like the adult version of shaken baby syndrome.

"...you would get out with your tongue bitten off. That would be fun." Sean, is this something you do up there (for fun) that we're not aware of down here? The emergency rooms must be really busy on weekends sewing peoples tongues back on.

Heck rolling down the road in this thing at speed is akin to a roller coaster ride. Hang on and keep your arms in the vehicle at all times.

And call the emergency room head of time (need tongue to form words) so that can be ready for you.

Back in those days, the place to make the real high speed runs was on a frozen lake, you couldn't get much better for straight, flat, and in most cases, a little bit roughed up surface for traction.

Oh, yeah, a frozen lake. Sounds as good as biting your tongue off. Back then, those on the west coast just needed to find a beach or go to the Bonneville salt flats. Seriously, winter time was probably good since the snow can help to level uneven roads.

My sense for adventure like that left me when common sense came along. Dam common sense... Don't forget the silk scarf to go along with the helmet and goggles.
