Seriously? Do you mean vinyl seat upholstery? The last time I saw a profusion of vinyl seating was in the 60's and 70's GM cars today, my 76 CDV of course being the exception with leather interior.

Yep cars are showing up with that as a durable fabric. I see quite a few of the imports with it on the lower end cars.

Well, I'll be dipped in liquid vinyl. It's funny that at one time, vinyl was a big deal. Now, it's the epitome of cheap.

Yes in the 30's Packard introduced vinyl as a more durable space age option over leather it cost much more to have that fabric. Made me laugh....

Then as now, new technology always costs more. I'd think that most people were slow to accept vinyl for anything but trim.

Certainly leather flexs better when cold and vinyl is as hard as rock until your bum warms it that may have been the reason for slow uptake.

Just crank up the underseat heater and the seat is warm and pliable in no time flat.
Speaking of underseat heaters, what operating controls were used?

And don't forget some eggs. Then, light up a stogie and watch the whole thing go boom.

How so? Do you mean to say that under seat heaters had an integral fan that would short-circuit and cause the foam and fabrics to ignite? Man, talk about being in the "hot seat."

Exactly I remember lots of those heaters burning out up here as the winters were cold then and lots of people had those crap heaters in the car and more than one came out to a burnt interior.

Blame it on the folks with big, cold butts. Being under the seat, the heaters probably got lots of debris in them that eventually caught fire.
