I have a 54 Hornet Special thats in pretty rough shape. I am going to do a bumper to bumper restoration of it. I have the front clip off now and I am stripping the interior out. When I have it stripped competely I am going to have the whole thing media blasted down to metal. They use walnut shells and it takes it down to bare metal. I will then throw on a coat of epoxy primer and start to do the body work. I'm looking at replacing the trunk floor for sure. The perimeter frame looks good but I may need to replace the floor boards.

Its going to take me a while but I am willing to spend the time. A friend of mine is going to rebuild the engine for me. Its a 308 Twin H.

I will keep you updated on any of the major milestones and I will be looking for advice and parts info.

TP

Sounds like you have your work cut out for yourself. Be nice when its done and you can say you did all that work. You will have to post pics and keep us updated. I would suggest trying out our new blog feature. You will find it under community in the Main Menu. That way you can keep an online diary of the work that we can all see and learn from.

Sean

Toby, if you need any photos of another Special, let me know. I'd be happy to take any photos you may need of mine.

Thanks for the offer. I have both Hudsons completely apart now. Sending the bodies out to be media balsted. Then my friend is going to make sure the bodies are straight. I am basically a helper to my friends but I am learning.

I will post if we can't figure something out. Nice 54 I like the black paint and red wheel combo. I might give something like that a try.

Hey if you have a chance wouldn't mind some pictures of how your exhaust routes.

Media blasting the bodies is the only way to go IMHO lets you see what you are working with and in the end you get a better finish.

Thanks

A quick update. Everything has been media blasted and coated in epxyy primer. We are in the middle of replacing some rusted areas. Floor boards on the 54 are being replaced. Lucky for me my buddy is a metal fabricator he is looking after all of that.

I am laughing at my early project timeline estimates. Funny how work and having a life get in the way. I have decided not to sweat the details they will be done when they are done. Can't expect anything less, I shouldn't be rebuilding two cars at once.

Its been a while I know. We have finished all of the body work now and the cars are in primer waiting for paint. Still trying to figure out what colors to use. I am leaning towards painting the Special red. Will update as soon as I figure things out.

Hey Toby good to hear from you again. I have all of the color chips and paint codes and formula's from 48-54 so if you need an original Hudson color I can help you out.
