Looks to be a pretty good project car for the 47 lover. BIN is reasonable at $3500. Just the fact its complete and all the trim and components are there is worth the price. Do a little body work and you have a nice driver.

Compared to this design, the 48s must have looked futuristic to people.

In my opinion the design of these cars is what I call prewar. In the late 30's the Hudson design culminated in the lines of the 40 which were totally balanced. The 41 started to roll down hill design wise. Why move the trunk hinges to the outside and why make the rear fenders bulbous. These were not there in the 40 it was clean and well balanced. The 42 had that straight across grill and the belt line was raised and then the post war 45-47 were horrible. I mean this car is in ok shape but the design is all over the place. They say in the time after the war Frank Spring was dreaming of sports cars and the 48 and the stepdown line and that a lot of changes were made by Toncray and the body engineers who wouldn't have known a good design if it bit them on the ass. Spring was too docile on the changes made in preproduction. And boy you can see it in these cars they are badly proportioned. Look at the Jet the changes to that car were made while Spring was in Europe he gets home and they have butchered his design and its already in production at least over that one he tried to quit they calmed him down with the Italia project.

The short answer is that someone should have tried to calm old Frankie down with a V-8 project. Talk about a design being over the place, the Italia was innovative but ugly . Blow holes in the front fenders and organ pipes jutting out of the rear fenders. That car was about as balanced as the brain of someone suggesting you use brake parts in a starter. For crying out loud, Tucker made a better looking vehicle made from left over parts and a helicopter engine.
