A question on hudson rear ends . Firstly is the backing plate rear end in my 53 hudson a dana 44 or what & how do i tell. Are they a straight swap for 50 hudson pacemaker rear, and are all the brakes interchangeable as they have all been rebuilt on the 50 rear end. Lastly wich is the stronger diff as both centers need rebuilding. And where to buy bearings and seals for these rear ends.
thanks

Yes backing plate rear end in a Hudson is Dana 44 parts are readily available for this model. Axle shaft bearings on a 50 year end are mythical beasts only seen as much as bigfoot. So for parts Dana 44 is better choice. Dana is easy to get parts for at any auto store. The Pacemaker Hudson rearend you need to get parts from a Hudson supplier. And yes you can move the brake parts over but if the Dana is from a Hornet they had bigger brakes so you make need to rebuild those and get better braking. You can move the parts over though. Front drums are most important for good stopping.
