What are your thoughts - suggestions on the heat riser valve. Mine is pretty much junk, shaft is worn, bushings are gone etc.

One suggestion I was offered was to remove the heat riser and block the shaft holes off with two bolts. Just run without,...might be a bit tempermental with a cold engine?

The reasoning given was that these valves are a source of trouble in that they can stick allowing hot exhaust gases to continually circulate into the intake manifold , which can cause cracking.
