Can anyone tell me where I might get an original thermostat to suit my 1954 Superwasp 262ci motor. Its the last thing I need before reinstalling my engine. My mechanic wants to fit the original style as he is not sure if a modern style thermostat will work correctly with the bypass casting in the thermostat housing. Any info on the above would be most helpful. I haven't driven my car in about eighteen months and would like to drive it soon.

Hello and welcome to our site.

For the original bypass type thermostat you can get these from Hudson part supplier Dave Kostansek at 440-293-4079 do not have an email addy for him.

For supplies closer to you I would get in contact with the Australian Hudson club I am sure some of the members will have thermostats. Tell me what part of Australia you are in and I can post you the contact for your area.

You can also use a modern thermostat by modifying your existing thermostat housing you can put in a restrictor plate that Walt Mordenti sells (or make one yourself)or you can place a soft plug into the top of the housing one that has a small hole drilled in it so act as a proper bypass. Pic of both types below.

By-pass Plate

Gooseneck soft plug

Nice looking engine I see you are running an alternator. Are you running 12v?

Post a pic of the car as well if you can.

Had to run 12V as I couldn't see of a night. Important, as I drive my car any time I can. Will post pics of car as soon as I get them off our old computer.
Have spoken to Dave and organised two thermostats so thanks again for your help.
